Maria W. Peter (* 1976 in Neunkirchen (Saar) ) is a German author.

Life

Maria W. Peter, born in Neunkirchen in Saarland , spent her childhood in nearby Schiffweiler . Enthusiastic about languages, Roman and American history at an early age, she later processed these topics in her novels. As a student she was active in the Neo-Latin movement, received the Federal Prize for Latin and was the only German member of an American choir in Kaiserslautern .

From 1995, Peter studied at the Franco-German Saarland University and the University of Metz on teaching the subjects literature and languages with a focus on American and English literature , from 1997 in parallel Classical Archeology and Ancient History . She then attended the journalism course of the prestigious Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in Columbia, USA, as a Fulbright scholar . During her studies she also worked as a freelance journalist for various regional newspapers. In 2005, Peter started working as a high school teacher, teaching English, French, Latin and creative writing.

In addition to her literary work, she is currently working on her doctoral thesis on the historical detective novel at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . She is now working as a full-time author.

Peter took an early interest in fiction writing. Already in her childhood and youth she developed a. Adventure stories, a boarding school novel, a first unpublished historical novel and various science fiction stories. During her studies she then wrote two plays and her first two historical novels. In 2007 her debut novel Fortunas Rache was published by Bastei Lübbe . The thriller is the prelude to a series of novels about the criminal cases of the Roman slave Invita in ancient Trier . In 2008 the second part followed The Legion of the Raven and in 2010 the third volume with the title The Treasure of Solomon . The emigrant saga The Coast of Freedom was also published by Lübbe in 2014 .
