Marie von Marra-Vollmer
Marie von Marra-Vollmer , née Marie von Hack , (born July 20, 1822 in Linz ; died December 25, 1878 in Frankfurt / Main ) was an Austrian - German opera singer ( soprano ).
Life
The singer's maiden name was (depending on the spelling) Maria or Marie , Baroness von Hack (also: von Hacke / Haake ).
In 1842 she chose the Italian-sounding stage name Marie von Marra because her parents did not approve of her profession. During this time she took singing lessons from the composer Gaetano Donizetti in Vienna and excelled above all in the Italian form of belcanto . From 1843 she worked as a chamber singer in the court theater of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . In 1845 she was one of the most important singers at the Vienna Court Opera . She then performed all over Europe, especially in German-speaking countries, including guest appearances and longer stays in Pest, Prague, Berlin, Dresden, Breslau, Hamburg, Petersburg (Imperial Italian Opera, 1846), Riga, Danzig, Königsberg , Stuttgart, Amsterdam (1855–1858), London, Brussels, Italy. Since 1849 she has not entered into any permanent engagements.
In addition to her singing career, she was active (to the modest extent that her fee allowed) as a benefactress. In 1848 she married the Braunschweig artist Theodor Vollmer in Königsberg , who worked there at the city theater. Her son Arthur Vollmer also became an actor.
After the death of her mother in 1861, the singer decided against returning to the stage. Instead she worked from then on as a singing teacher in Frankfurt am Main and founded a conservatory for the theater. Amalie Schramm was one of her students . She died in 1878 after a long period of suffering.
