Mariana Dias Ximenes

Mariana Dias Ximenes (born December 13, 1983 in Baucau , East Timor ) is an East Timorese marathon runner .

In 2001, Ximenes won three gold medals at the Arafura Games in the 5000 m, 10,000 m and half marathon disciplines. It was the first time that East Timor competed as an independent team at the Games, even if the country had not yet been granted independence by the United Nations .

In 2002, Ximenes took part in the Asian Games in Busan in the marathon.

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , Ximenes started in the women's marathon, but did not finish.

Ximenes was the only female athlete in her country at the Beijing Games because the marathon runner Augusto Ramos Soares had not come. Ximenes carried the flag of East Timor at the opening ceremony.
