Béni Saf ( Arabic بني صاف) is a port city in northwest Algeria , about 80 km southwest of Oran . The port city was founded in 1876 to be able to ship iron ore , marble and the mineral onyx , which were mined in mines south of the city.

The port city is the transition point of the Hassi R'Mel – Almería natural gas pipeline , which runs from the Algerian gas field Hassi R'Mel to Almería in the south of Spain .
