Marianne Kurzinger (married Marianna Kunz ; * 1770 (or 1767 ) in Munich , † March 29, 1809 ) was a German history and genre painter .

Life

Kurzinger was the daughter and student of Franz Kurzinger (* 1730; † around 1790) and was taught by Johann Jakob Dorner the Elder. Ä. further trained.

In the artist biographies, her works were referred to as “mediocre history and genre pictures”, or listed as “skillful” or “accomplished”. The art encyclopedias unanimously note her “flattering” nickname of a “Bavarian Angelika Kauffmann ”. At the Munich art exhibition of 1788, Kurzinger's works were exhibited, including the night piece with Artemisia and a work entitled King Salomon .

Her best-known work is perhaps Gallia protects Bavaria , which reproduces the political situation in Bavaria around 1805 in allegorical imagery.

Her two brothers Alois (* not assigned) and Ignaz (* 1777) were also painters and, like their uncle Johann Kurzinger (1735–1794), were taught by their father. Kurzinger married the actor and opera singer Johann Nepomuk Kunz or Kurz (1768–1795) from Munich. She died in 1809. Her husband was only 28 years old.
