course

Upper course: Föllinger Bach or Eisnitzbach

The Föllinger Bach arises from the confluence of several small streams in the Weinitz district of Fölling. It follows Neusitzer Straße , while other unnamed feeders converge . The upper course is largely preserved and has water quality 2.

Middle course: Mariatroster Bach

From the height of the Mariatroster district Fölling, the Föllinger Bach is called Mariatroster Bach. In the area up to Tullriegelstrasse , the original stream bed with a multitude of meanders has been preserved. The brook then breaks through a Schöckl limestone clod and separates the Kogelberg from the Purberg . During its course through the Graz district of Mariatrost , several right tributaries come from the slab . These are the Tullbach consisting of Rettenbachklamm coming Rettenbach which Josef Bach , who Mariagrüner Bach and Faulbach .

The Mariatroster Bach has water quality 2 up to the confluence of the Josefbach, below water quality 2–3.

Lower course: Kroisbach

The Mariatroster Bach is called Kroisbach from the height of Hilnteich . During its course through the districts of Geidorf and St. Leonhard , it mainly flows in a concrete bed; From the site of the University of Music and Performing Arts , the water is completely built over. The Kroisbach continues underground under Mayffredigasse and Wastiangasse to the intersection of Sparbersbachgasse and Mandellstrasse . At this intersection it flows together with the Leonhardbach , which together form the Grazbach .

Especially in the upper reaches up to Tullriegelstraße , the Mariatroster Bach or Föllingerbach is still largely in a natural state. The middle course is already heavily built, but the bottom of the valley is intact. The following fish species are found in the Mariatroster Bach: gudgeon , brown trout , minnow , brook loach .

The body of water is partially leased by the Styrian Nature Conservation Union in order to prevent harmful influences. The Mariatroster Bach is part of the Styrian landscape protection area No. 30.
