Antilles Creole is a French- based creole language primarily spoken in the Lesser Antilles . It is also called Patwa ( Patois ) by its speakers . The language was spoken by a greater number of people in the past , but today the number of native speakers is declining. In Trinidad , there are only very few speakers, as well as on Grenada . In Dominica an attempt is being made to preserve the language.
In areas where French is the official language, the term Guadeloupe Creole is used. In Guadeloupe and Martinique, almost 100% of the population speak Creole.
There are correspondingly named dialects in each area.
