Marie-Luise Kreuter

Marie-Luise Kreuter (born December 27, 1937 in Cologne ; † May 17, 2009 ) was a German journalist, non-fiction author and organic gardener. She was considered one of the most successful gardening book authors in Germany and a pioneer of ecological gardening.

Life

Kreuter was already involved in natural gardening in her youth. After training as a journalist, she worked as a freelance editor for magazines and radio stations, including Südwestfunk in Mainz and Westdeutscher Rundfunk in Cologne. In the course of time, organic gardening developed into her professional focus and she was one of the first authors to dedicate herself to this topic.

1977 appeared in Heyne Verlag with the organic garden her first work. The book stayed on the Spiegel bestseller list for weeks. In 1979, BLV Buchverlag published her advice on herbs and spices from her own garden . In 1981 her best-known book was published with Der Biogarten . The organic garden developed into a standard work for natural gardening. Over the next 28 years it was sold over 1.5 million times and translated into different languages. The 27th edition was published in February 2016.

From 1985 Kreuter worked as a specialist advisor for kraut & rüben , a monthly gardening magazine for organic gardeners and natural living. In 1990 she became its editor.

Furthermore, she published numerous other gardening books during her literary career. In 2007, a newly bred Rambler rose from the rose school Ruf in Bad Nauheim was named after her.
