Marie Bayer was the daughter of the actor Franz Rudolf Bayer , from whom she also received her first acting lessons. When she demanded an increase in her salary in 1848, the director of Lüttichau endorsed this request to the king with the remark that Bayer-Bürck was already at a height that made her Germany's first actress in her field. From 1850 to 1857 she performed annually at the Vienna Hofburgtheater .

On November 29, 1886, she celebrated her 50th stage anniversary in Dresden and was made an honorary member of the Dresden Court Theater . A little later she retired into private life.

She was married in her first marriage since 1849 to Dr. August Bürck, in his second marriage since March 21, 1862 with Major Adolf von Falkenstein. She last lived in the house at Georgplatz  8. Maria Freifrau von Falkenstein died at the age of 89 in Dresden and was buried in the old Annenfriedhof .
