Marie Kiesel
Marie Kiesel , actually Marie Walter (illegitimate, born August 25, 1851 in Vienna , † October 10, 1926 ibid) was an Austrian singer.
Life
Marie Walter performed as a singer in various Heurigen restaurants in Ottakring (Vienna) at the age of 13 . After performing mostly Viennese songs as a soloist for a few years , she began performing professionally in 1872. Her pseudonym comes from her long-time duet partner, the butcher Kiesel (verifiable from 1887). Not only did they sing together, but they also had some dances in their repertoire; including the Weana dance .
She also performed with the yodel artists Brath and Horvath and the singer Josef Bratfisch . Occasionally she was also attended by the brothers Johann and Josef Schrammel accompanied, which later named after them Schrammel music played.
Kiesel's appearance was one of the highlights of the International Theater and Music Exhibition in Vienna in 1892 . The following year she made a successful tour of the United States . On September 1, 1897, she married the musician Hans von Koerber (actually Johann Moritz Ernst Körber, September 1, 1872, Vienna - May 7, 1939, Vienna), with whom she also performed regularly.
After the First World War , Kiesel could no longer build on her earlier successes and soon withdrew into private life.
