The Lady Chapel of Gefäll

The Marienkapelle is a chapel in Gefäll , a district of the Lower Franconian market Burkardroth in the Bavarian district of Bad Kissingen . The chapel has a crucifix, a cruciform roof shrine and a Marian grotto. The crucifix and the canopy are among the monuments of Burkardroth and are registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the numbers D-6-72-117-27 (crucifix) and D-6-72-117-28 (canopy) .

history

The Marienkapelle, also known as the “Holy House”, was donated in 1908 by Andreas and Rosa Schmitt. The chapel was built from rubble stones and equipped with a ridge roof. The chapel houses an old man with a Madonna figure and a wooden pietà in a niche on the ridge. Today the chapel building as well as the wayside shrine, the crucifix and the Lourdes grotto are owned by the municipality of Burkardroth.

The heritage-protected wayside shrine next to the chapel bears the Würzburg flag of Würzburg Prince-Bishop Philipp Adolf von Ehrenberg with the year 1629 and a relief of St. Anthony of Padua , the patron saint of Gefäll. There is an oath inscription on the shaft as well as the year 1767, which possibly indicates the year of renovation.

The listed, sandstone crucifix next to the chapel was built in 1823 and bears the inscription "Stifter Valdin / Wirth 1823" on the base.

The Lourdes grotto is 40 meters from the chapel. Like the chapel, it was created in 1908 as a foundation by Andreas and Rosa Schmitt. The grotto was built from rubble stones and houses a 100 centimeter high Madonna figure.
