Lady Chapel (2009)

The Catholic Marienkapelle in Stockhausen , a district of the local community Windhagen in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Neuwied , was built between 1884 and 1886. It stands as a cultural monument under monument protection .

history

The construction of the chapel goes back to two local residents who took part in the Franco-Prussian War (1870/71) and wanted to found a place of worship in Stockhausen if they returned undamaged. They made a piece of land available for this, on which the construction of the chapel began in 1884 with financial support from the village community. In 1885 it became the property of the Windhagen parish and was completed the following year. The consecration to "Mary of Perpetual Help" did not take place until 1890.

The chapel was first renovated in 1910 and 1933, and in 1937 the bell tower was renewed and the roof was re-roofed. At the beginning of the 1970s, the chapel was in poor structural condition and was supposed to be rebuilt, but was finally placed under monument protection and extensively renovated as an example of the “sacred construction from the time it was built around 1890” . The interior was last completely renewed in 2009.

architecture

The chapel is a neoGothic hall structure of brick with verschiefertem saddle roof and steeple (bell designated 1888). The base is made of rubble stones , the choir is finished off polygonally. The furnishings include portraits of the Mother of God , St. Joseph and St. Antonius . A bronze cross by the sculptor Egino Weinert on the altar table with a depiction of Jesus comes from 1986 .
