Marienkapelle (Telgte)
The Catholic Marienkapelle is a listed pilgrimage chapel belonging to the parish of St. Marien in Telgte , a town in the Warendorf district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
In 1654, Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen laid the foundation stone for the chapel. The Franciscan Father Jodokus Lücke began construction in 1654 and Peter Pictorius the Elder . Ä. completed it in 1657. The consecration took place on July 2, 1657. The dome-covered hexagonal building is equipped with free-standing Corinthian columns at the corners . The choir was added in 1763. The roof and lantern were changed to their present form in 1854. In the same year a sacristy was added. The coat of arms of the Prince-Bishop of Galen is affixed above the three portals.
Furnishing
The equipment has been drastically changed several times. In 1854, for the anniversary, the chapel received a neo-Gothic interior and decoration instead of the baroque altar. Remnants of it are exhibited in the Museum Religio. For the anniversary in 1954, the interior was whitewashed and the neo-Gothic style was replaced by a simple altar with a simple tabernacle without any additional structures in the 1950s style. The altar from 1954 was "turned over" to the people's altar after the 2nd Vatican because its dimensions made it suitable. In 2004, for another jubilee, the Chapel of Grace in Telgte received the current wooden table altar.
