The catholic provost church St. Clemens is a listed church building of the parish of St. Marien in Telgte , a town in the Warendorf district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

History and architecture

The original parish from around 800 was first mentioned in a document from 1169 to 1173. After a city ​​fire around 1500, the church was moved to the site of the former sovereign Flozenzburg. An inscription on the south portal began in 1522 directly on the Ems . The exterior was completed in 1526 and a choir vault was renewed in 1555. The vaulting of the nave took place in 1557. The building is a spacious hall church originally four bays with narrow aisles . The choir has a 5 / 8 -Schluss. The round pillars are adorned with leaf wreaths on the capitals . The fish bubble tracery on the windows was largely renewed. A sacristy has been added since 1868 and the church building is extended by a yoke to the west.

The organ on the west gallery was built in the years 1871–1872 by the organ builder Caspar Horstenke (Telgte) and expanded in 1974 by the organ building company Breil (Dorsten). The slider chests -instrument today 45 registers (3,600 pipes ) on three manual stations and pedal .
