Marietje Schaake ( [mɑˈritʃə ˈsxaːkə] ; born October 28, 1978 in Leiden ) is a Dutch politician of the Democrats 66 (D66).

Life

After finishing school at the Montessori Lyceum in The Hague , Schaake studied fine arts at Wittenberg University in Springfield (Ohio) , United States . She then moved to the University of Amsterdam , where she studied sociology , American studies and media studies. In addition to her studies, Schaake was politically active and a member of the Democrats 66 party . Schaake has been a member of the 66th Democrats in the European Parliament since 2009 . There she is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe . Schaake is considered to be network-savvy and formulated her election program in 10 tweets . The Wall Street Journalist Ben Rooney called her “Europe's most wired politician”.

Schaake lives in Amsterdam .

Schaake is a member of the Committee on Culture and Education and the delegation for relations with the United States. She is a deputy in the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defense Policy , in the Committee on International Trade and in the Delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo and in the Delegation for relations with Iran . During an official visit in June 2015, she was sharply criticized by the Iranian media for her supposedly inappropriate clothing (the headscarf did not fully cover her hairstyle).
