Marija Wakounig

Marija Wakounig (born March 19, 1959 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ) is an Austrian historian .

Life

From 1978 to 1982 she studied at the University of Vienna ( graduated in 1982 with a Magistra phil.). From 1980 to 1983 she completed the training course for historical auxiliary sciences at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research . After completing her doctorate in 1985, she was a university assistant at the Institute for East and Southeast European Studies at the University of Vienna from 1986 to 1996. Since 1996 she has been a reviewer for the Polish-Austrian Commission of Experts for the Improvement of School Books on History and Geography. Since 1997 she has been teaching as an associate professor at the University of Vienna. From 2002 to 2003 she held a visiting professorship at the University of Klagenfurt .

Her main research interests are the history of diplomacy (Middle Ages to the present); Aristocratic history (middle ages to the present); Social, scientific, economic and social history of Eastern Europe and the Alps-Adriatic region; Women's and gender history in Eastern Europe and the Alps-Adriatic region.
