Mittleres Glemstal is a landscape protection area in the Ludwigsburg district .

Location and description

The area was designated as the 43rd landscape protection area of the Ludwigsburg district by ordinance of the district office of August 19, 1982. It extends between the group sewage treatment plant in Ditzingen and the outskirts of Schwieberdingen on the boundaries of Schwieberdingen, Hemmingen , Ditzingen and Korntal-Münchingen . Two older landscape protection areas were included in the designation, namely the Nippenburg landscape protection area (1938) and the Heimberg area (1967). The limestone region of the Middle Glems Valley is a charming region with a high recreational value. It includes different habitats such as the Glems with their bank vegetation, parts of the side valleys of Döbach and Wannengraben as well as wooded slopes, fields, heathland, field trees, orchards and park areas. In the center of the landscape protection area lies the Nippenburg castle ruins .

By ordinance of April 2, 1990, some agriculturally used properties in the Nippenburg area were removed from the area of application. At the same time, in the Fuchsrain area, a hedge with field trees, which had become important as a shelter for small game as well as a habitat for plants and animals, was also included. Today the protected landscape area covers an area of 178.3 hectares.

Protection purpose

The purpose of the protection is to preserve the natural diversity of the Glemstal landscape and to secure it as a local recreation area in the west of the greater Stuttgart area.
