Marijan Oblak

Marijan Oblak (born December 8, 1919 in Veli Rat on Dugi Otok , Yugoslavia , today Croatia ; † February 15, 2008 in Zadar , Croatia) was Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zadar from 1969 to 1996 .

Life

Marijan Oblak was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on August 5, 1945 in Šibenik . From 1945 to 1949 Oblak was prefect of the episcopal seminary in Šibenik. In addition, from 1945 to 1949 religion teacher at the state high school in Šibenik. From 1949 to 1951 he was prefect of the archbishop's seminary "Zmajević" in Zadar, there he was a religious teacher at the archbishop's grammar school. In 1955 Oblak became vice-rector in the archbishop's seminary in Zadar, and Oblak also taught as a professor in the field of French language , Croatian language and literature at the archbishop's grammar school in Zadar.

1958 he was by Pope Pius XII. appointed titular bishop of Flavias and auxiliary bishop in Zadar. The episcopal ordination on 6 July 1958 gave him the Archbishop of Zadar, Mate Garkovic , as well as the co-consecrators Ciril Banic , Bishop of Sibenik, and Stjepan Bauerlein , Bishop of Sirmio.

As auxiliary bishop, Marijan Oblak acted pastorally as vicar general and rector of the archbishop's seminary. From 1968 to 1969 Oblak was capitular vicar in the Archdiocese of Zadar. In addition, Marijan Oblak took over the office of Apostolic Administrator from May 24, 1969 . On July 27, 1969 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed Archbishop of Zadar to succeed Mate Garkovic.

In 1996, the age-related resignation of Marijan Oblak was granted by Pope John Paul II ; his successor as archbishop was Ivan Prenđa .
