Marinus Voorberg
Marinus Voorberg (born May 7, 1920 in Hoek van Holland ; † March 29, 1985 in Hilversum ) was a Dutch pianist and conductor .
Live and act
Voorberg studied piano and organ at the Hague Conservatory and graduated there in 1940. Concert tours as a pianist have taken him through Europe, Israel , India and Indonesia . From 1950 to 1952 he studied choral conducting in Italy and in 1952 took over the direction of the NCRV Vocaal Ensemble (later the Dutch vocal ensemble ) until its dissolution in 1978. From 1961 he also worked as conductor of the Amsterdam Chamber Orchestra (later the Concertgebouw Kamerorkest ). From 1975 to 1981 Voorberg also directed the Südfunkchor, today's SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart . As a choral conductor, Voorberg concentrated in particular on demanding a cappella repertoire and advocated contemporary composers. In 1971 he was made a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau .
There are television and radio recordings as well as recordings with the conductor Voorberg. In 1970 he received the Edison Prize for a recording of madrigals and responsories by Claudio Monteverdi .
Marinus Voorberg was buried on the Hilversum Zuiderhof.
