Mario Orozco Rivera

Mario Orozco Rivera (born January 19, 1930 in Mexico City , † November 20, 1998 ) was a Mexican painter. His son is the artist Gabriel Orozco .

life and work

Orozco Rivera studied from 1952 at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" , among others with Manuel Rodríguez Lozano and Carlos Orozco Romero . From 1956 he lectured as a master of painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and a member of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana and in 1957 a member of the Frente Nacional de Artes Plásticas (FNAP). From 1961 to 1964 he had a teaching position at the Universidad Veracruzana , where he founded the training workshop for fine arts and painted several murals there . In 1964 David Alfaro Siqueiros offered him the position of deputy director of his artist workshop in Cuernavaca . Here he painted more murals in the Polyforum Cultural Siqueiros .

Orozco Rivera exhibited his pictures in several solo and group exhibitions and has received several awards at home and abroad. For many years he was a member of the Partido Comunista Mexicano and then a member of the Partido Socialista Unificado de México . His friends also included Rafael López Jiménez and Víctor Jara .
