Marissa Brandt , b. Park Yoon-jung , (born December 18, 1992 in Seoul ) is a South Korean national ice hockey player who grew up in the United States and has played for Phoenix in the Korean Women's Hockey League since 2017 . Her adoptive sister, Hannah Brandt, is a member of the United States women's national ice hockey team .

Career

Brandt, who was born in Seoul as Park Yoon-jung , was adopted four months after she was born by Greg and Robin Brandt from the US state of Minnesota , who gave birth to a daughter a few months later. Park, renamed Marissa, and her adoptive sister Hannah grew up together and initially tried figure skating . After Hannah soon switched to ice hockey , Marissa aspired to her sister and so they both played together. Between 2009 and 2011, both were active for the school team at Hill-Murray High School .

Then the two parted ways. While Marissa Brandt studied at Gustavus Adolphus College and ran up in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association for the college ice hockey team there, Hannah Brandt decided after graduating the following year for the University of Minnesota . There she developed into one of the best players and made her debut at the age of 18 in the US national team . After graduating from college, Marissa Brandt remembered her South Korean roots without losing contact with her adoptive family, and from then on played in the Korean Women's Hockey League . At the 2017 World Cup of Division II, Group A , she made her debut in the South Korean national team under her maiden name and managed to move up to Group B of Division I with the team. Even after moving within the Korean league, she remained a member of the national team and was part of the The all-Korean ice hockey team's 35-strong squad at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .
