It is subordinate to the Shipping Assistance Division in the field of mobility and public relations of the Flemish Community and has been located in a renovated administrative building of the Vismijn of Oostende since June 2006 . The listed building was given an additional, fully glazed floor for maritime traffic control (Port Control) and the MRCC. The address is Maritiemplein 3, 8400 Ostend. United KingdomUnited Kingdom

tasks

The MRCC Oostende is the first point of contact for incidents in the monitored sea area, e.g. E.g. for people and ships in distress , accidents or oil spills. The continuous (24-hour) manning ensures that all emergency calls from seagoing vessels in the Belgian sea area that are received via radio calls to OSTEND RADIO are recorded. Thanks to the Automatic Identification System (AIS), the positions of all ships in the monitored sea area are known, so that a quick decision can be made as to the fastest and best way to provide help.

The MRCC commissions the responsible Coast Guard partners for sea emergency operations (SAR). The aim is to bring the most suitable units to the scene as quickly as possible and to establish coordination between the units and authorities involved in the aid.

The government-owned VLOOT shipping company has around 50 ships that can be alerted for rescue operations. In addition, the help of the navy or the shipping police can be requested at any time. Vloot itself has two of its own lifeboats , which are stationed in Ostend.

The voluntary sea rescue service in Blankenberge (Vrijwillige Blankenbergse Zeereddingsdienst) also has two all-weather lifeboats.

The 40th Squadron of Belgian Air Component, which uses Westland SeaKing Mk 48 and NH-90 caiman helicopters from its base in Koksijde, is commissioned to perform airborne search and rescue tasks.

Head of Nautical Service MRCC - SAR is: Captain R. Gyssens

Coastal Rescue

Monitoring and rescue on the beach is not the responsibility of the Coast Guard or the MRCC. The coastal rescue service for the Belgian beaches on the North Sea has been carried out and organized by the Intercommunale Kustreddingsdienst West-Vlaanderen (IKWV) since 1982 . The headquarters of the rescue service is located in the municipality of Koksijde. As an umbrella organization for all coastal communities, it ensures the safety of tourists, bathers, swimmers and water sports enthusiasts on the beach and in the water along the West Flemish coast. Coastal surveillance runs from July 1st to August 31st between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
