Maritime is an American indie rock band from Wisconsin .

Band history

The band was formed in 2003 from former members of The Promise Ring and The Dismemberment Plan . After the two bands split up, singer and guitarist Davey von Bohlen, drummer Dan Didier and bassist Eric Axelson got together and founded a band called In English .

The group was soon signed by the independent label ANTI Records and played a long player, which was not released by ANTI. The band name was then changed and called themselves Maritime.

The band produced and released their first EP Adios on their own label Foreign Leisure , which now offers music from The Promise Ring and Maritime on vinyl in the USA. After the debut EP, Maritime signed a new record deal with DeSoto Records . At the same time, the Hamburg indie label Grand Hotel van Cleef became aware of the band and promptly signed Maritime.

On May 31, 2004 Maritime released their first album Glass Floor , with the decoupled video single Someone has to die . The first tour through Germany followed in September. On October 28, 2005, the second album We, The Vehicles was released. Album number three followed on October 12, 2007, the third album Heresy and the Hotel Choir , in summer 2007 Maritime played with Kettcar , Kante and Kilians at the Fest van Cleef.

On February 6, 2006 it was announced that bassist Eric Axelson had left the band. Justin Klug now took his place. Dan Hinz, who had made a significant contribution as a studio musician at We, The Vehicles , became a full member of the band at this time.

After a four-year hiatus, the fourth album Human Hearts was released on April 8, 2011 with the video single Paraphernalia .

style

The band's music continues the direction taken with Wood / Water, the last record of The Promise Ring, and combines indie rock songs with soulful arrangements and von Bohlen's characteristic voice, but uses more acoustic instruments than in earlier times.
