Mark Hersam

Mark C. Hersam (born January 31, 1975 in Downers Grove ) is an American materials scientist .

Life

Hersam grew up in Downers Grove near Chicago . As a high school student, he attended events at the Argonne National Laboratory . He studied in Urbana-Champaign and Cambridge . In 2000 he received his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign ; he then conducted research under David N. Ruzic and Joseph Lyding . Since then he has been Professor of Materials Science at Northwestern University (Chicago).

In 2013, Hersam received the Arthur K. Doolittle Award from the American Chemical Society . In 2014 he was a MacArthur Fellow . For 2020 he was awarded the Medard W. Welch Award from the American Vacuum Society .

research

Mark Hersam deals with the density gradient centrifugation of carbon nanotubes .

Since 2007 he has been marketing his research results on the production of carbon nanotubes through the company NanoIntegris .
