Mark Israilevitsch Dworezki , also Dvoreckij ( Russian Марк Израилевич Дворецкий , scientific transliteration Mark Izrailevič Dvoreckij ; born December 9, 1947 in Moscow ; † September 26, 2016 ) was a Russian , formerly Soviet chess player and coach. It is most commonly written according to the English transcription Mark Dvoretsky , and less often Mark Dvoretzky .

Career

Dworezki began working as a chess teacher in 1972 after completing his university degree in economics. He worked, among other things, together with ex-world champion Michail Botvinnik in his Botvinnik chess school with the greatest Soviet chess talents .

As an active chess player, Dvoretski won the Moscow championship in 1973 , finished fifth at the 22nd USSR Championships in Leningrad in 1974 and won the B group of the Hoogovens tournament in 1975 . He was then named International Master by FIDE in 1975 .

Dvoretski won the Soviet club championship in 1976 and the European Club Cup in 1976 and 1979 with Burevestnik Moscow .

Dvoretsky counted among his most important students the grandmasters Valery Chekhov , Artur Yusupov and Sergei Dolmatov , who won the individual youth world championship under Dvoretsky's training , as well as the world-class player and World Cup candidate Alexei Drejew . Together with Yusupov he ran a chess school between 1990 and 1992, in which the successful grandmasters Viswanathan Anand , Pyotr Swidler , Vadim Swjaginzew and Sergei Movsesjan trained. In 2004 Dworezki received the title FIDE Senior Trainer. He wrote a number of major chess books that have been translated into numerous languages. His endgame university was already described as a "modern classic" when it appeared.

His best rating was 2540 in January 1976. His last rating was 2465; However, he was last listed as inactive because he had not played a rated game after a competition in the Dutch Meester class in the 2009/10 season .
