Career highlights and awards

Mark DeWayne Moseley (* 12. March 1948 in Lanesville , Texas ) is a former American American football poker players. He played for sixteen seasons in the position of kicker in the National Football League (NFL). He played most of his career with the Washington Redskins , with whom he won the Super Bowl in 1982 .

Career

Moseley began his career in the NFL after being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1970 NFL Draft . There he beat the more experienced Sam Baker . However, his season was bad, converting only 14 out of 25 field goal attempts and 25 out of 28 PAT attempts . During the season he also took over the duties of punter Bill Bradley , as this had sustained a knee injury. After the last preparation game in 1971, he was released. He then played for the Houston Oilers one season and two games before he was dismissed here despite good performances. In 1974 the Washington Redskins signed Moseley as a free agent . In 1979 he was first appointed to the Pro Bowl . Two bad seasons followed, converting only 37 out of 63 attempts. In 1982, Moseley's time with the Redskins seemed over when the Redskins selected kicker Dan Mills in the 1982 NFL Draft. Mills, who in contrast to Moseley did not shoot with the tip of his toe, but used a shooting technique taken from football, did not play a good preseason , which is why Moseley kept his job. In the season shortened by a player strike to nine games, Moseley helped the Redskins into the playoffs by deciding three games. He also broke the record for the most successful field goals in a row that season at 23. In total, he converted 20 of 21 attempts, which earned him the best hit rate in a single season at the time (95.3%). His only miss this season came on the final day of the game against the St. Louis Cardinals . The Associated Press then voted him MVP , an award that no other kicker has received to this day. He also won Super Bowl XVII with the Redskins that season . Moseley was released from the Redskins on October 13, 1986 and ended his career with the Cleveland Browns .
