Mark Anatoljewitsch Sakharov ( Russian Марк Анатольевич Захаров ; scientific transliteration Mark Anatol'evič Zaharov ; born October 13, 1933 in Moscow ; † September 28, 2019 ibid) was a Russian film and theater director and screenwriter . At the same time, Mark Sakharov was a professor at the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS). He held the title of People's Artist of the USSR .

Mark Sakharov's father was a Red Army soldier in the Russian Civil War , his mother an actress. Sakharov grew up in Moscow and was supported by his parents in his persistent attempts to become an actor. After several attempts, he was accepted and graduated from the Drama School of the State Theater Institute in 1955.

Sakharov put together a troupe that with him in the Moscow Lenkom Theater worked, including Yevgeny Leonov , Inna Churikova , Leonid Bronewoi , Oleg Yankovsky , Alexander Abdulow , Nikolai Karatschenzow , Alexander Sbrujew , Alexandra Zakharova , Tatyana Kravchenko , Alexander Lazarev and Dmitry Pewzow . With these and other actors, he also made numerous feature films that achieved national fame.

Mark Sakharov has directed the Lenkom Theater in Moscow since 1973 and during this time he made a decisive contribution to shaping the theatrical landscape of Moscow.

The minor planet (5359) Markzakharov , discovered by Lyudmila Tschernych in 1974, is named after Mark Sakharov . In 2018 he was named Hero of Work .
