The Markansu is a right tributary of the Kysylsuu in Tajikistan and China .
The Markansu arises at the confluence of the source rivers Koksoja and Koksaja north of Lake Karakul in the extreme northeast of Tajikistan. The source rivers are fed by the glaciers on the southern slope of the eastern Transalai and the eastern flank of the Zulumart chain . The source region lies at an altitude of almost 4,000 meters in a high mountain desert valley with little precipitation. The Markansu flows east and crosses the border into China. It cuts through the mountainous region of the north-eastern Pamir initially in an easterly direction, later in an east-northeastern direction. In the south lies the Sarikol chain and the Kingata-Tagh mountains . In the north, the catchment area of the Markansu is bounded by the Transalaikette and its eastern continuation, the Sarybel mountain ridge. The Markansu has a length of about 120 km. It drains an area of approx. 4400 km².
