from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marko Simić (born June 6, 1987 ) is a Swiss basketball coach of Serbian descent.

career

Simić's family comes from Čačak in Serbia and moved to Switzerland . He grew up in Pratteln in the canton of Basel-Landschaft . He played basketball at Liestal Basket 44 and coached the club's youth teams from the age of 16. Later he also coached the selection teams of the Basketball Association of Northwestern Switzerland (BVN).

In 2008 he went to neighboring Germany and became an assistant coach at TG Renesas Landshut in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . In early November 2008, Landshut's head coach Robert Scheinberg resigned, Simić was his successor. Under his leadership, Landshut managed to stay in league, in May 2009 he received a contract extension for the 2009/10 season, but before the start of the season he switched to the Franken Hexern, where he became the head coach of the U19 team in the youth basketball league and beyond worked under Derrick Taylor as assistant coach of the witches' partner club Nürnberger BC in the ProB. In November 2009 Simić received the approval to move to the GiroLive-Ballers Osnabrück . At the club from the 2nd Bundesliga ProA , he took over the post of head coach of Dragan Torbica, who had previously been dismissed .

Simić finished the 2009/10 ProA season with Lower Saxony in ninth place in the table. At the beginning of the 2010/11 game year, he led the Osnabrück to six wins in a row. In the following weeks things went worse, the team lost five out of seven games. At the beginning of January 2011 Simić had to leave, Osnabrück was at the time of the split with eight wins and five defeats in fifth place in the table.

At the beginning of February 2011 Simić took up a new position and was head coach at Osnabrück's league competitor USC Heidelberg until the end of the season , with whom he ended the season eighth.

For the 2011/12 season he was hired as head coach of the Oettinger Rockets . Under Simic's leadership, the Thuringians went into the championship finals as leaders of ProB-Süd and marched there without defeat in the final series, which was won with 2-0 victories against SC Rasta Vechta . After winning the title, Simić was voted the best coach of the 2011/12 ProB season in a vote carried out by the 2nd Bundesliga. As a newcomer to the league, Gotha wanted to establish itself in the ProA in the 2012/13 season and reach the finals. The club's management saw the implementation of this project in jeopardy when Simić was dismissed in November 2012 following a 60:83 defeat against Science City Jena . The team was there with two wins and six defeats on the penultimate place in the table.

Simić returned to Switzerland and in February 2013 became the new head coach of the NLA club Starwings Basket Regio Basel . He was not employed as a full-time trainer for the Basel bidders, but worked for an insurance company. He also became the head coach of the Swiss U20 national team, which he was in charge of at the B-European Championships in 2013 and 2014.

In December 2013 he resigned from his coaching position at Starwings, as this was no longer compatible with his professional obligations. In 2015 he worked as an assistant coach for the Swiss senior national team and has since returned to youth work at his home club Liestal Basket 44. For the 2016/17 season he became a trainer in the youth department of the German club CVJM Lörrach and acted as director of basketball camps.

From the 2017/18 season he worked as the coach of the men's team at his home club Liestal Basket 44.
