The Markowe Szczawiny Hut ( pl. Schronisko PTTK Markowe Szczawiny ) is located at an altitude of 1180 meters in Poland in the Saybuscher Beskids on the northern slope of the Babia Góra . The area belongs to the municipality of Zawoja . The hut is known after the Markowe Szczawiny alpine pasture . This name can be translated as Marks Ampferalm .
history
The first hut was opened by the Polish Tatra Society in 1906 , just one year after the Babia Góra hut was opened by the Beskydy Society below the summit at 1616 meters above sea level. In 1922 the hut was expanded. During the Second World War, the hut was taken over by the Alpine Club , Krakow department . Another expansion took place in 1964. In 2007 the old hut was completely rebuilt, so that now almost nothing reminds of the old hut. The new hut has fewer places to stay, but it is handicapped accessible. It is on the edge of the Babia Góra National Park . It is owned by the PTTK . A small mountain museum is located at the hut, as is a climbing wall.
