The village of Markowice ( German Markowitz ) is located in the powiat Mogileński in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship . With the first Polish partition in 1772, the place fell to Prussia and, as part of the Prussian province of Posen, initially belonged to the Inowrazlaw district , after its division in 1886 to the newly created Strelno district . The homonymous estate is the birthplace of the Polish poet and independence fighter Gustaw Zieliński and the philologist Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff . At the beginning of the 19th century it was owned by the Polish aristocratic Zieliński family . The active participation and financing of Gustaw Zielinski's uprisings against Russian rule led to expropriation and in the middle of the 19th century the estate was sold to the Wilamowitz-Moellendorf family .
