Market hall (Beaumont-du-Gâtinais)
The market hall in Beaumont-du-Gâtinais , a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the French region of Île-de-France , was built around 1775. It stands opposite the parish church of Saint-Barthélemy on the Place de l'Église. In 1922, the market hall was added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .
architecture
Three rows of oak posts divide the market hall into two parallel aisles that extend over nine bays . The total of 30 wooden posts stand on square stone plinths and support strong beams on which the upper floor, which is accessible via a wooden staircase, rests. This is covered with a tiled roof and developed as a storage facility on the east and west sides.
use
The hall originally served for trading in grain as well as meat, wool and cloth. Today the weekly market takes place here. It is also used for the annual markets held four times a year .
