Markus Berger (politician)

Markus Berger (born January 28, 1938 in Ingelheim am Rhein ; † October 29, 2016 ) was a German officer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Berger was a professional soldier (pioneer), his last rank was lieutenant colonel in the reserve. From 1987 until his retirement in 2000 he was an advisor to Alfred Dregger , initially in his capacity as chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group , later in his capacity as honorary chairman of the parliamentary group.

Political party

Berger joined the CDU in 1964. From 1983 to 1991 he was chairman of the federal committee for security policy of the CDU.

MP

Berger was a city councilor in Lahnstein from 1964 to 1984 and was also a member of the district council of the Rhein-Lahn district . He was a member of the German Bundestag from October 25, 1977, when he replaced Albert Leicht , until 1980, and again from June 19, 1981, when he replaced Norbert Blüm , who was appointed Senator in Berlin , until 1987 . There he was a full member of the Defense Committee and the Committee on Education and Science . He was a member of the Parliamentary Assemblies of the Council of Europe and the Western European Union .
