Markus Dürager (born February 20, 1990 ) is a former Austrian ski racer . The Altenmarkter specialized in the fast downhill and Super-G disciplines.
biography
Dürager comes from Altenmarkt im Pongau and attended the Schladming ski trade school . His father is an alpine sports supervisor and is responsible for the youth team in the ski club of Union Sportclub Altenmarkt, and his younger brother Matthäus is also a ski racer. Dürager drove his first FIS races in December 2005 , became Austrian youth champion (age group Youth I) in the downhill in March 2007 and competed in the European Cup for the first time in December 2007 at his home races in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee . After winning an FIS race for the first time in January 2008, he took part in the 2008 Junior World Championship in Formigal the next month , where he was 16th in the downhill. At his second Junior World Championship in 2010 in Megève , he was 15th in the Super-G and 20th in the downhill.
In 2008 Dürager was accepted into the squad of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV). He achieved his first top 10 result in the European Cup on February 12, 2009 with ninth place in the downhill from Sarntal / Reinswald and almost two years later, on January 11, 2012, achieved second place in the downhill from Val-d ' Isère his first podium. In the World Cup , Dürager was first used in March 2011 in Kvitfjell , but remained without points in both the downhill and the Super-G. In his third World Cup race, the Hahnenkamm run on the Streif in Kitzbühel on January 21, 2012, he finished 30th in the points for the first time. On January 16, 2013, Dürager celebrated his first victory in the European Cup in the two-day sprint downhill run in Hinterstoder .
Dürager's best World Cup results so far are two 10th places, in the downhill from Bormio on December 29, 2013 and in the Super-G from Kitzbühel on January 26, 2014. In the 2014/15 season, he only finished twice in the points. On November 28, 2015, he had a serious fall on the Lake Louise descent . He broke his left tibia and fibula as well as his left wrist.
After a 2-year break from injury, he started his comeback in the 2017/18 season and immediately took first place at the Nor-Am Cup downhill in Lake Louise . After that, Dürager only started one race in the World Cup. At the World Cup descent in Bormio, he didn't see the goal. There were also no results in the European Cup.
After the Austrian championships in March 2019, Dürager ended his active career.
