Markus Daun (born September 10, 1980 in Eschweiler ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer coach .
Markus Daun started playing football at FC Germania Dürwiß before moving to the youth department at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . With the Leverkusen amateur team he was in the 2000/01 season champion of the Oberliga Nordrhein and with 23 goals at the same time top scorer of the league before Giovanni Federico . From Leverkusen he moved to Alemannia Aachen in 2001 on loan and then to Werder Bremen in 2002 . After he had played 27 games in the first year, he came in the Bremen championship year 2004 in the competition with the foreign star strikers only to six missions that remained goalless for him. He then moved to 1. FC Nürnberg after the season , where he was rarely used due to injury. From the 2006/07 season Daun played for MSV Duisburg , with whom he rose from the 2nd Bundesliga to the 1st Bundesliga in the 2007/08 season . At the latest with the decisive 2-0 in the last game against the later regional league relegated Rot-Weiss Essen on May 20, 2007, Daun had played into the hearts of the Duisburg fans. In July 2008 Daun moved back to his former club Alemannia Aachen, with which he received a three-year contract. In his first year he was used regularly, but could not play in the starting eleven. On matchday 21 he saved the draw against FC Ingolstadt with an emergency brake in the last minute of the game . Worse than the red card, however, was that he tore his inner ligament and damaged the meniscus during the action. It was only on the last two match days on May 17 and 24, 2009 that he was able to complete two short appearances for the Alemanni. But he carried his knee problems with him into the next season and after he was only able to play for the second team again on September 26, 2009 on the 11th match day of the NRW League, but had to be replaced again after 62 minutes, he decided to knee surgery. Until the end of his contract, he fought to return to professional football, but then had to end his career at the age of 30.
Daun is known for his dedication and technical finesse during his active time. He was a U-21 international and also had five appearances on the team in 2006 , in which he also scored a goal.
From 2013 Daun worked in various positions in the youth performance center of 1. FC Köln. During the 2017/2018 season he was part of the coaching staff of the professional team under Stefan Ruthenbeck .
In March 2018, Daun successfully passed his coaching course and received the DFB football instructor license .
For the 2018/2019 season, Daun took over the coaching position of the U-21s at 1. FC Köln. In November 2018, he was released from his post after his team was penultimate with ten points at the end of the first half of the season.
For the 2019/2020 season, Daun returned to 1. FC Köln and took over as coach of the U-17 team. The one-year contract was not extended by 1. FC.
