Markus Duesmann

Markus Bernhard Duesmann (born June 23, 1969 in Heek ) is a German engineer and manager. He was a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG until July 24, 2018, where he was most recently responsible for purchasing and the supplier network . On April 1, 2020, Duesmann took over the chairmanship of the Audi AG board and was appointed to the VW group board for the research and development resort .

education

Duesmann completed his Abitur in 1988 at the Arnold-Janssen-Gymnasium in Neuenkirchen. He then studied mechanical engineering at the Münster University of Applied Sciences , Steinfurt department. In 1992 he completed his studies there as a graduate engineer (FH).

Career

Immediately afterwards, he joined Daimler-Benz AG in Stuttgart as a designer in engine development. In 1995 he moved to the development service provider FEV GmbH in Aachen , where he rose to the position of head of the engine mechanics division.

After eight years, he took over the position of main department head for the diesel engine development division at DaimlerChrysler AG Stuttgart. After just one year, he was appointed Head of Development for Formula 1 .

In 2007 he moved to the BMW Sauber F1 Team as Head of Development . After BMW Sauber withdrew from Formula 1 in 2010, he took on the position of Head of Development Driving Dynamics and Driver Assistance. In 2012 he continued his career as Head of Powertrain Development. On October 1, 2016, he was appointed to the Board of Management of BMW AG, succeeding Klaus Draeger , who left the Board of Management when he reached the age limit applicable at BMW. On July 24, 2018 it was reported that Duessmann had been poached by VW and was therefore resting his work as a member of the BMW AG Board of Management. However , he was initially unable to work for the VW Group because of the usual competitive ban in the same industry. In November 2019, the VW Supervisory Board appointed him as CEO of Audi AG with effect from April 1, 2020; At the same time, he will take over the research and development department on the VW Group Board .
