Markus Gygax

Markus Gygax (born April 30, 1950 in Solothurn ) is a former Swiss professional officer ( corps commander ).

biography

Gygax completed a commercial apprenticeship. He completed his military service in the Air Force, for which he completed the basic training on the Bücker and on the Pilatus P-3 . As a fighter aircraft pilot, he was a member of the Patrouille Suisse from 1974 to 1983 after joining the surveillance squadron . In 1978 he completed an aerial combat flight instructor training in the United States.

In 1990 he was assigned to the Chief Operations Officer of the Air Force for one year and from 1994 commander of an air regiment. In addition, he was in charge of the introduction of the F / A-18 into the Swiss Army. In 1998 he was promoted to brigadier and became commander of the air brigade. In 2003 he became divisional director and chief operations officer and deputy commander of the Swiss Air Force and, from 2004, chief operations officer and deputy commander of the Swiss air force. On June 21, 2008 he became interim commander of the Swiss Air Force and on March 1, 2009 he was officially appointed Commander of the Swiss Air Force. On December 31, 2012, he handed over the office to Aldo C. Schellenberg and retired.

He is u. a. Member of the Switzerland section of the Clausewitz Society and since 2015 President of the Pro Aero Foundation for the promotion of Swiss aviation. After retiring, he indulged in paragliding .
