Markus Hornig

Markus Hornig (born November 30, 1964 in Sulzbach-Rosenberg ) is a German tennis and mental trainer .

Tennis coach

Markus Hornig acquired the DTB A-Trainer license in 1990 . Hornig was a trainer on the tennis professionals' ATP tour for eight years. From 1991 to 1993 he worked with Markus Zoecke , who rose from 180 to 48 in the ATP world rankings during this time and was accepted into the German Davis Cup team in 1992 . He later looked after other German Davis Cup players such as Bernd Karbacher , David Prinosil and Michael Stich , whom he briefly supported in 1997 as part of his comeback preparations.

In 1993 he was head coach of the TC Waldau Stuttgart, from 1994 to 1996 Bundesliga coach of the HTV Hannover, where he trained with the then 18-year-old Nicolas Kiefer . In 1997 he moved to LTTC Rot-Weiß Berlin , where he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga with the men's team. With this club at the Berliner Hundekehle, he was the coach of the youngest team in the 2nd Bundesliga in 2000 with an average age of 19 (including the players Philipp Petzschner , Björn Phau and Alexander Peya ).

Hornig is still involved in the training and further education of tennis coaches, including as a speaker at the German Tennis Association. Hornig also wrote textbooks and films.

Mental trainer

Hornig has devoted himself intensively to the topics of mental training, self and performance management since 2002. He advises top athletes such as football professionals, teams and companies. Hornig has supplemented his practical experience from top-class sport with extensive training and further education. He is a trained alternative practitioner for naturopathy and psychotherapy, a certified mental trainer and a certified biofeeddback trainer. He also completed the corporate health management course at the University of Bielefeld . Hornig has developed the motivation program Moving - from now on healthy , which he published as a book in 2004 together with Carl-Uwe Steeb . As the managing director of Moving Gesundheitsmanagement GmbH, Hornig develops special programs that companies in particular use to promote the health of their employees and to reduce sick leave.

Hornig has been working as a mental coach in the coaching team of the German women's national team since autumn 2011 . He was also part of the supervisory staff during the European Championships in Sweden 2013 and the Olympics in Rio 2016 . With the goalkeeper and captain of the German national soccer team, Nadine Angerer , Hornig gives lectures in companies on the subject of leadership and motivation.

Hornig has also been writing columns since summer 2013, for example for Focus Online.
