Markus Jäger (writer)
Markus Karl Jäger (* 1976 in Tyrol) is an Austrian writer , songwriter , writing coach and blogger . He has also published under the pseudonym Simon M. Jonas .
Life
Markus Jäger studied English and American studies as well as political science . He has worked as a writer and translator since 2006 and as a librarian since 2008 . In 2009 he received his PhD in American literary and cultural studies with a dissertation on the American singer and civil rights activist Joan Baez .
Since 2012 he has worked as a reviewer for various literary areas at the EKZ library service. He lives and works in Innsbruck.

Markus Jäger published numerous texts - poetry and prose - in magazines and anthologies, among others. a. at Zugetextet.com or umlaut (magazine) . Several poems have been selected and published for poetry volumes in the library of German-language poems. Some works also appeared under the pseudonym Simon M. Jonas, including his debut novel Der bange Traum .
Markus Jäger was nominated for the Peter Huchel Prize in 2014 for the volume of poems Der Atem der Momente , published by Arovell Verlag . In 2017 he received a nomination for the POLLY Prize for Political Poetry. His last novel Heroes Forever was selected as a finalist for the DeLiA Literature Prize 2019. The novel addresses the love of two young men during the Nazi era .
engagement
Markus Jäger identifies himself as gay and is actively committed to combating homophobia and anti-queerism. In May 2019 he appeared as a writer and songwriter at the event Merano against Homophobia , in July he gave a lecture on the subject of "The End of Discrimination?" As part of the international series of events Creative Mornings . over 50 years of LGBT movement. In his work as a librarian, he is, among other things, responsible for the selection of LGBT literature for the Innsbruck city library and actively promotes diversity and cultural exchange.
