Markus Koller

Markus Koller (* 1972 ) is a German historian .

Life

From 1994 to 1998 Markus Koller studied the history of Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the history and culture of the Middle East and the Near East as well as Turkish Studies and Ancient History at the University of Munich (1999: Magister Artium). After completing his doctorate in 2003 at the Ruhr University Bochum , he worked from 2004 to 2006 in the research project “Transformation in the Danube Region 1686–1699” of the Swiss National Science Foundation at the University of Bern . From 2006 to 2007 he was a research assistant at the humanities center for culture and history of East Central Europe in Leipzig . In 2007 he represented the junior professorship in the history of Southeast Europe at the University of Giessen . From 2007 to 2010 he taught as a junior professor for the history of Southeast Europe in Giessen . After completing his habilitation in Munich in 2009 , he was appointed to the chair for the history of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey in Bochum in 2011 . From 2013 to 2015 he was the managing director of the Historical Institute at the Ruhr University Bochum. Since 2016 he has been Executive Director of the Center for Mediterranean Studies. From 2018 to 2019 he was vice dean , since October 2019 dean of the Faculty of History at the Ruhr University Bochum.
