Markus Schroth (born January 25, 1975 in Karlsruhe ) is a former German soccer player who is now an extreme runner and consultant.

Player career

Schroth began playing football at TSV Reichenbach , which is based in his home village . At the age of 15 he moved to Karlsruher SC , where he went through the youth teams up to the first team. At the same time he graduated from high school in Karlsbad in the neighboring town of Langensteinbach. He made his Bundesliga debut in the 1-0 defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt on October 7, 1994, when he came on for Eberhard Carl in the 63rd minute of the game . On April 13, 1996, Schroth scored his first Bundesliga goal for Karlsruhe in a 3-0 win against SC Freiburg . After having been part of the KSC professional team for four years, he moved to TSV 1860 Munich after Baden's relegation in 1998 . When he was also relegated from the first Bundesliga with the Munich team in 2004 , he switched to the first division promoted 1. FC Nürnberg . With the club he was able to win the 2006/07 DFB Cup . Schroth is moving to TSV 1860 Munich for the 2007/08 season on a free transfer. He signed a contract until June 30, 2009 with an option for another year. The reason for the change was also that Schroth saw good prospects for the time after his active career in 1860.

In preparation for the 2007/08 season, he injured his knee. After a tendinitis was diagnosed, he had to undergo several operations, so that he was not used in the two seasons with the lions . Schroth ended his career as a professional player in the summer of 2009.

Schroth played twenty times for the German U-21 national team, scoring six goals. He played six times for the A2 , twice for the team in 2006 . Here he scored one goal each.

After the active career

On March 1, 2009 he assisted Uwe Wolf in the game against FC St. Pauli for the first time as assistant coach. At the game in Ingolstadt on March 8, 2009, Schroth took over the role of coach after Wolf was referred to the stands by the referee shortly before half-time. After finishing his career in the summer of 2009, Schroth worked for IMG , the TSV 1860's marketer , for two years. In 2011 he was employed as a special trainer in the TSV 1860's youth training center. After the leave of absence of his former striker colleague Bernhard Winkler as coach of the U23 of the Lions and the rise of the previous assistant coach Klaus Koschlik to head coach, Schroth rose to the assistant coach of the little Lions in early September 2011 . On May 14, 2012 Schroth was promoted to assistant coach of TSV 1860 Munich in the second division . On May 8, 2013 he asked the club to terminate his contract as assistant coach for personal reasons.
