Markus Theil

Markus Theil (born October 3, 1968 in Munich ) is a German sports journalist and sports commentator .

Life

Since 1998, Theil has been working mainly in tennis and football as a commentator for Eurosport 1 and for the streaming service DAZN . He played tennis himself in the 2nd Bundesliga and was part of the Munich youth team as a youth.

In 2017 he won the German TV Award in the category "Best Sports Broadcast" for commenting on the 2016 US Open Women's Final together with Marco Hagemann (Commentator Australian Open 2016), Matthias Stach (Moderator) and Frederic Jouon (Producer) . In 2019 he commented on the first Grand Slam victory of a German men's double since 1937 by Kevin Krawietz / Andreas Mies at the French Open . He was also part of a broadcast at the US Open 2019 when a power failure threatened the transmission.

According to the website tennisnet.com, Theil is “one of the most popular tennis commentators on the tour” and can be heard regularly in podcasts .
