Marlene Kahler (born May 15, 2001 ) is an Austrian swimmer . At the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games , she won bronze in the 400 and 800 meters freestyle . In 2019 she qualified over 1500 meters crawl for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo .

Life

Marlene Kahler grew up in Schwechat , first started with the backstroke and later switched to the crawl . At the age of fourteen she went to boarding school in the high performance center in the southern part of the city , where she attended the five-year upper school until the Matura 2020 and was trained by the Hungarian Balázs Fehérvári, among others.

In 2018 she won a bronze medal for the 400 and 800 meters freestyle at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Argentina . She also took part in the European Swimming Championships and the European Championships in 2018 .

At the international Hungarian championship in Debrecen at the end of March 2019 she finished second in the 800 meter crawl and qualified for participation in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo by completing the Olympic Qualifying Time (OQT) in the 1500 meter crawl . At the 2019 World Swimming Championships in Gwangju , South Korea , she again undercut the Olympic standard. At the beginning of August 2019 she became four-time Austrian national champion , each over 200, 400, 800 and 1500 meters freestyle. In November 2019, she celebrated her first victory in the World Cup in Doha .
