Marlyn alert
Marlyn Alarm (born February 16, 1993 , formerly known under the pseudonym Marlon Alarm ) is an American singer and songwriter . She is known for her androgynous demeanor and sophisticated lyrics in her songs.
Music career
2011–2012: musical beginnings and double diamond
Marlyn Alarm posted songs online on YouTube that she either composed or covered . She covered songs by Lana Del Rey and Michael Jackson , among others, and made a remix of Lady Gaga's song Hair and her own song Don't Touch My Hair . In early 2011 her first album was released with the title Double Diamond ; the name "Double Diamond" describes an album that has sold over 2 million times. For the song of the same name, which was included on the album, a music video was released in the same year, which is no longer online. Filming this video described Alarm as the worst thing that happened in their musical career.
Alarm also shot a music video for the single Balance of the Universe , which was released in May 2012. The song didn't make it onto extended play, however. Instead, she released the single The One in late 2012 , along with an accompanying music video.
2013 – today: Radio Angel and Showboy Opera
Alarms Extended Play Radio Angel was released in early 2013 . Alarm attaches great importance to the fact that their musical works always form a complete unit and decided to release an extended play instead of an album, so that the listeners are more inclined to hear the entire EP in one go. Her second studio album is also based on a story, but it was divided into three acts. In April 2013, Alarm also performed live at the Slutwalk in Miami.
Her second studio album Showboy Opera was released at the end of April 2014. According to Alarm, the title of the album is a tribute to “gender-bending”, old-fashioned entertainment and theatrical splendor, which she also projects onto her life. The album consists of three acts, the first being a tribute to Alarm's life. Act two is in response to reality and Alarm says it would sound "like Disney in a nightclub". The final act focuses on the result of constantly pitting reality against fantasy. This plays with "failed relationships, impatience and the feeling of being a kind of alien".
According to their own statement, Alarm is currently working on a new EP. On February 24, 2015, she released a music video entitled "1AM" on YouTube. It is not known whether the song will be included on the new EP.
Personal life
Alarm is concerned that people don't reduce it to their looks and wants the audience to be aware of how important music is to them and how seriously they take it. She describes herself as asexual . At the end of February 2015, she stated in an interview that she was undergoing formal gender reassignment after living as a woman for a year. In the interview, she said that she had struggled with her gender identity since childhood and is now aware that she wants to live as a woman.
style
Alarm writes and produces their own songs, combining electronic , dance and pop music . The content is often about beauty, money, regret and missed opportunities. In 2012, Alarm said she was taking inspiration from Marilyn Monroe , Marlon Brando and her grandmother. Furthermore, in an interview from March 2014, she named other artists who inspire her and her music, including Chopin and My Chemical Romance .
Alaska's Alarm Mode wore Mangialetto of Jacked Fashion in her music video for Aliens of Suburbia . In her private life, however, she mostly dresses from the Internet. She also mentioned in an interview in 2011 that she wears clothes from thrift stores and Forever 21 , among other things . In her view, the connection between fashion and music is “two languages that express much of the same. When they work together, less is lost. "
