The Marsens Tower ( French . Tour de Marsens ) is a fortified tower in Puidoux in Switzerland . It is a cultural asset of regional importance and is therefore a listed building .

Location and architecture

The tower is located in the municipality of Puidoux in the canton of Vaud . More precisely, the tower is located in the Dézaley area in the Lavaux wine terraces .

It has a floor plan of 10.9 m by 11.4 m and has four floors. Four loopholes , a walled-up door on the south-east facade on the first floor and a few small (also walled-up) windows are from the 13th century. From the end of the 15th century there is a rising battlement , a demolished defensive bay window in the north corner , large window crosses on the south-west side and a high door on the south-east facade of the building. An old angled turret was blunted.

history

An unknown client had the tower built in the 13th century, and it came into the possession of the Bishop of Lausanne in 1273 . From 1287 the tower belonged to Francoz, from 1356 to 1527 to the Counts of Gruyères , from 1527 to 1572 to the Lords of Plait and then to the Clavels of Cully and Ropraz . The Clavel retained the right to rule, but sold the tower and the vines in 1870 to the family Naef, which in 1969 a family foundation established to be able to be obtained about the tower in his condition.

From 1833 to 1896, François Naef restored the tower.
