Location of Wiewohl in Saxony-Anhalt

Wiewohl is part of the municipality of Dehre in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The street village of Wiewohl is located in the northwestern part of the Altmark, seven kilometers northwest of Dehre and about 25 kilometers west of the district town of Salzwedel am Grabower Graben, which flows into the Salzwedeler Dumme .. The state border between Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony is about one kilometer away.

history

The place was originally a horseshoe-shaped round square village . In 1242 Wiewohl was first mentioned as Wiewelle when the Diesdorf monastery received income from it. In 1428 the remaining part of the village came from the Buchmast family (Bukmast) to the Diesdorf monastery.

Due to its location near the inner-German border , the place was within the 5 km exclusion zone established in 1954 and was increasingly falling into disrepair. In the course of the reunification in the GDR , the rightful owners got their properties back and in 2012 almost all houses in the village were inhabited again.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the communities of Wiewohl and Markhausen (with the district of Holzhausen) from the district of Salzwedel were merged to form the community of Holzhausen . In 1973 the district of Wiewohl was reassigned to Lagendorf.

The local council of Lagendorf decided on May 8, 2008 to dissolve the community and merge it with the communities of Bonese and Dehre to form a new community called Dehre . This contract came into effect on January 1, 2009. So Wiewohl came to Dehre on January 1, 2009 as a district.
