Martin Šaško
Martin Šaško (also Sasko, Sassko * 28. April 1807 in Košariská , Upper Hungary ; † 20th February 1893 in Brezová , Upper Hungary) was the most important Slovak organ builder of the 19th century.
Life
His father was a farmer (or a carpenter?). Martin first learned the carpentry trade in Skalitz (Skalica) and at the age of 18 organ building in Brno (Brno). He settled in his hometown Brezová and founded an organ building workshop there. First he carried out minor work such as repairs and in 1834 built his first own organ for the Protestant church in Brezová. Then he built or modified around 100 other instruments.
His sons Martin and Ján, his grandson Gustáv Adolf Molnár, Samuel Wagner and other organ builders were among his students. Martin Šaško was one of the Slovak intellectuals who advocated greater national independence.
In 1882 he handed over his workshop to his grandson Gustáv Adolf Molnár.
