Martin Bickel
Martin Bickel , also Martin Bickel-Hummel (born August 10, 1938 in Widnau ; † August 13, 2003 in Balgach ; resident in St. Gallen and Tablat ZH ), was a Swiss artist of Art brut .
life and work
Martin Bickel was partially disabled from birth . He worked as an unskilled worker. In 1973 he married the kitchen assistant Therese Hummel . In 1992 he began to create objects out of stone and found materials. He used it to create narrative, genre-like scenes that sometimes touched the fantastic.
The objects of Martin Bickel were discovered by the collector Josef John. A significant group of works by Martin Bickel came to the museum in the warehouse in St. Gallen via the collection built up by him and his wife Mina .
