Therese Bickel

Therese Bickel , also Theresia Bickel and Therese Bickel-Hummel (born April 4, 1941 in Kriens , † January 31, 1999 in St. Gallen ; authorized to reside in Ennetbürgen ), was a Swiss artist of Art brut .

life and work

Therese, also Theresia, Bickel, née Hummel, had been disabled since 1962 due to polyarthritis . She worked as a kitchen helper and in 1973 married the laborer Martin Bickel . In 1988 she began to draw, mostly rural scenes in a childlike style.

A group of works by Therese Bickel came to the museum in the warehouse in St. Gallen via the Josef and Mina John collection acquired in 2014 .
