Martin Braun (born November 18, 1968 in Löffingen ) is a former German football player and later a functionary and current coach .

Career as a player

Braun started playing soccer at FC Löffingen , then worked for FV Donaueschingen until 1990 and completed vocational training as a banker at the same time .

He made his first appearances in professional football in the 1990/91 season for the then second division club SC Freiburg , where he made a name for himself with solid performances. In 1993 he rose to the 1st Bundesliga with the club under coach Volker Finke . After a total of 157 games and 24 goals (first and second Bundesliga) for the sports club, Braun moved to 1. FC Köln in 1995 . Since he was not a permanent member of the starting line-up at FC, two years later he moved to the Austrian Bundesliga for record champions SK Rapid Vienna . In 1999 he returned to Germany and played one season with the second division club Karlsruher SC , with whom he was relegated to the regional league. Then he took the VfR Aalen , who played in the Regionalliga Süd , under contract, where Braun ended his active career in 2003.

Career as a PR manager and trainer

After completing a distance learning course as a business graduate (FH) , he worked as a PR manager at SC Freiburg until the end of 2007 . He terminated this contract by mutual agreement on December 31, 2007 due to differing views on how to deal with the long-time trainer Volker Finke as the last “Finke loyal”. After that, Martin Braun was temporarily responsible for the commercial and sporting areas at VfR Aalen as managing director, before he took up his new position as head of corporate communications at Imtech Germany in Hamburg on April 1, 2009 . In the summer of 2012 he switched to the Imtech stadium and arena technology team . Martin Braun then worked at MS in Spaichingen and, as project manager, has been responsible for the planning and implementation of the new construction of an administration and production building with a total volume of around 40 million euros since November 1, 2013.

From May 29, 2010 Martin Braun coached the first team of FC 08 Villingen in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . Later he was the sports director of the club, which had meanwhile been relegated to the Association League South Baden . After successfully returning to the league in 2017, he stepped down in the summer of that year because he was looking for a new challenge after successfully completing his coaching training .

He found this in November 2017 as the sporting director of the Stuttgarter Kickers in the Regionalliga Südwest , at the end of the season the club was relegated to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg. In the summer of 2019, the Kickers parted with Braun after missing the desired regional league promotion. After having worked in an advisory capacity at the regional league team TSG Balingen since November 2019 , he took over the coaching position in January 2020. At that time, the club had eleven points from 20 games, 14 points behind a non-relegation zone.
